Our drywall calculator determines exactly how many sheets of sheetrock you need. Calculate total wall area (room perimeter × ceiling height), add ceiling area if needed, subtract openings (doors 21 sqft, windows 12 sqft each), then divide by sheet area.
How Many Sheets of Drywall Do I Need?
For a 20×15ft room with 8ft ceilings: perimeter = 70ft × 8ft = 560 sqft walls. Ceiling = 300 sqft. Total = 860 sqft. Minus 2 doors (42 sqft) and 3 windows (36 sqft) = 782 sqft. Divide by 48 sqft (4×12 sheets) = 16.3 sheets + 10% waste = 18 sheets.
How Much Drywall Mud Do I Need?
The drywall mud calculator estimates joint compound based on sheets and finish level. Standard Level 4 finishing requires about 0.06 gallons per square foot. A 4.5-gallon bucket of all-purpose mud covers approximately 85 standard sheets (3 coats). Add extra for corner bead, patches, and skim coating.
